Lower Yough Loop High Water (7.7 Feet)
Просмотров 8802 месяца назад
After a morning Lower Big Sandy lap, my group divided up and went to go run the Upper Yough at 3 feet. Not feeling quite up to that yet, me and Aaron decided to make the drive to Ohiopyle and check out the Lower Yough at just under the 8 foot mark. Was my first time down it over 5.5 feet, so this was quite a surprise to see how gnarly it was 2 feet higher! Can't wait to do it again at this leve...
Bear Creek Top To Bottom (Raw Footage)
Просмотров 5262 месяца назад
With the Yough super high, and Kitzmiller super low, we ended up linking up with Nori and some other local paddlers for our first time down Bear Creek. Water level wasn't high or anything (around 450 cfs) but it was still a ton of fun! Felt sort of like a slightly easier, and less continuous Savage River run. At higher water levels, I'm certain that would change very quickly, as I've heard some...

Lower Big Sandy Full Run With Big Splat Redemption

Awesome day on that Lower Big Sandy where the water levels started out in the mid 6 foot range, and kept rising all day. First time running Big Splat since my skirt implosion and boat pin a few months ago. Thanks a bunch to Stephen and Todd for a great day of paddling!
Little Sandy Creek High Water
Просмотров 4513 месяца назад
Originally we were going to do a second Lower Big Sandy lap, but the rapidly rising water levels led to us deciding to paddle Little Sandy Creek into the Upper Big Sandy instead. After years of scraping down this creek at low water, it was awesome to paddle it this high!

Dry Fork High Water (between 6 and 6.2 feet)
Просмотров 2914 месяца назад
An amazing ending to the best weekend of water levels we've had here on the East Coast in 3 years. An amazing combination of a foot of snow, coupled with rain and high temperatures resulted in the river levels skyrocketing, but more importantly holding for over 2 days, which is almost unheard of here without a solid snowpack or hurricane. Anyways, finally got the opportunity to paddle the Dry F...
Stoney Creek Into Highwater Kitzmiller
Просмотров 1 тыс.4 месяца назад
Finally got on Kitzmiller at high water after years of trying and failing to catch it above the 6 foot mark. Finally got what I was looking for, and then some, as the river started out at 6.5 and just got higher and higher... Paddling the Stoney into it was just the icing on the cake! One of the best days of paddling I've ever had! Thanks so much to @artbarket and Colton for paddling with me, a...
Big Splat Skirt Implosion into Pin
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.5 месяцев назад
My PFD down Big Splat could have gone better... Was a bit too far right on the lip of the drop and flipped on the landing, and rolled up to see my skirt had imploded. Tried to paddle my flooded boat to the pool on river right, but it flipped upstream and I had to bail when I saw the undercut rocks coming up, which my boat promptly pinned on.

Finally got a chance to check out the Lower Blackwater after finally getting a solid day of rain on the East Coast after months of nothing. Too bad there isnt some kind of O2 mask for when your get stuck under water for more than 30 seconds. In cl5 or 6 rapids.

    • @tankmaster1018
      @tankmaster1018 2 месяца назад

      Theres a system called "Rapid Air" that is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, that fits into your life jacket front pocket. You can take like 3 or 4 extra breaths off of it if you get stuck underwater and can't afford to pull and swim. Steve Fischer and his crew used it when they paddled the Inga Rapids on the Congo River where getting held underwater by whirlpools on the eddy lines was a real concern, and they saved Steve's life after he got held underwater by one for over a minute and was forced to swim. Benny Marr, the paddler in this video was on that trip as well!

    Somewhere in the mid to late 90's Mike and I and several other boaters ran the Dry Fork at a near insane 16 ft on the Parson's gauge, which I'd guess translates to maybe 12 ft on the Hendricks Dry Fork gauge. The entire 8 miles of the lower was over in less than 45 minutes. And that was with everyone surfing wherever it was safe to do so. When we finished up Mike and one other guy split to run Otter Creek while me and one boater went over to attempt a run on Brushy Fork along Rt 38 going down to Nestorville. That run didn't go very well at the culvert just above the limestone quarry but we survived it. Mike is one hell of a boater and one of the nicest guys you'll ever run any river with. Tell him Paul said hi.

    Not talking sh$t, but you did not make that look smooth, survival mode vibs, ive spent many an hour looking at exit. Their is a super clean line, but as this video shows while in it you the paddler cant see sh$t and the power of the river can easily take you out of your line. Mad skills and respect for running this, wish I could have seen it live, what was the cfs?

    • @tankmaster1018
      @tankmaster1018 2 месяца назад

      It's not me in the video unfortunately, wish it was, but can't take credit for Benny Marr's run! I reached out to him to get permission to post his run on RUclips since it was only on Facebook, and turns out this was back from when he was really young. He's improved a shitload since then, which is hard to believe since he's amazing in this footage already... Tumwater is one of my dream runs, I'll be out there someday, maybe not at this level, but I've gotta try it! This run down Exit was right over the 10,000 cfs mark if I remember correctly

    Gnarly swim!!! Blackout deep...as dark as the shart stain down your leg. I passed out once in a hole when a rookie. I blew air into my suit thinking it was good to be more boint. Beach ball spin affect while getting the shit kicked out of me by my boat spinning with me. At least the world didn't go dark...I'll give you that world class swim award!

    • @tankmaster1018
      @tankmaster1018 2 месяца назад

      You actually were calm and composed enough during a beatdown to hypothesize that blowing air into your drysuit would give you the buoyancy you needed to get out of the hole, and then actually put the plan into effect and attempt it? Dude... I'll paddle with you anyday.

      Just got a 2nd lap on it 2 weeks ago at exactly the level you mentioned in the comments here. I remember you saying you wanted me to run it around 2 feet lower then in my 6.2 foot lap I posted awhile back, and I caught it at 4.2 feet, which is exactly the level you recommended if I remember correctly. Was totally awesome, and would have easily exceeded the 6.2 foot run I posted here if it wasn't for the massive blizzard that unleashed hell as soon as we made it down to the Otter Creek confluence... I still totally understand why you prefer it around 4 rather than 6+ feet. I'm a nut for big water, so that 6.2 foot run felt like one of my home rivers (Shenendoah and Potomac) but it was objectively a way more challenging and useful run for paddlers looking to take a last step up before paddling the Cheat Canyon for the first time. I know you left your original comment a month ago, and probably don't even remember me, but wanted to reach out since I caught it at the exact water level you told me that I had to try! Here's the video from that day: ruclips.net/video/Nh0jjNmMfdc/видео.htmlsi=QgGYl6aHpVtVPXuW
